In brief, the standard that addresses the automatic operation of garage doors also contains provisions related to the automatic operation of gates. One of these standards is UL 325 which is the standard for Door, Drapery, Gate, Louver and Window Operators and Systems. A second standard addressing automatic gates is ASTM F2200 which affects the manufacture and installation of the gates themselves. These standards were published in 2000 and 2001 respectively.

Responsibility for UL safety standards passes from the manufacturer to the dealer, to the installer, then to the property owner for continued compliance.
